The town of Guardamar, has historically played the role of guardian of the river Segura.
There are around 12 km of beach, pines and very old mature trees and flora here. A Mediterranean park with fountains and lakes that give life to squirrels, swans, fishes has to be seen.The prime natural feature are the dunes formed from sand deposited by both the river Segura and the sea, and blown inland by the east winds. This natural area is today the main distinguishing feature of Guardamar and it includes the Reina Sofia and Alfonso XIII parks, ideal for a leisurely stroll or for cycling.

The beach at La Mata is said to be one of the most beautiful in this area, due to its fine sand, ever-changing waters and nearby coves. There are beach bars and restaurants and the Torro del Moro tower stands there.
